The program consisted of weekly three-and-a-half minute interviews with Broadway luminaries, hosted by Isobel Robins and Richard Seff, and syndicated to radio stations around the country.

THEATRE COMPANY GRANTS
As part of its longstanding mission of celebrating and supporting the very best in theatre, not just on Broadway, but in smaller, non-commercial venues as well, The American Theatre Wing provides funding to New York City not-for-profit theatre organizations to both honor and sustain their work.

JONATHAN LARSON GRANTS
The Jonathan Larson Grants honor the talented creator of Rent by providing grants to encourage and support emerging songwriters.

Bios

 

Heather Hitchens is a nationally recognized arts leader, with nearly 20 years of performing arts administration, policy, and program development experience.

A percussionist since the age of six and a lifelong theater goer, Hitchens began her career in the development department of the American Music Theater Festival. Prior to being appointed Executive Director of the American Theatre Wing in July of 2011, Hitchens served as the Executive Director of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the largest state arts agency in the country.

During her four year tenure at NYSCA, Hitchens oversaw the distribution of over $123 million in grants to more than 2,000 New York State organizations in every artistic discipline. She also fostered closer collaboration and partnerships between the arts and other sectors including tourism, economic development, and parks, and in collaboration with a number of public and private funding sources, launched the New York State Cultural Data Project, which is developing more comprehensive and reliable data about the impact of the arts in the state. Prior to her leadership of NYSCA, Hitchens served as President of the renowned national arts service organization Meet The Composer, where she revitalized the organization's artistic programs, established a multi-million dollar endowment fund and fostered a thirty-fold increase in individual giving. Ms. Hitchens also served as CEO of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra.

Hitchens holds an M.S. in Arts Administration from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA and a B.M. in Percussion/Music Business from DePauw, Greencastle, IN.


Theodore S. Chapin
 is President and Executive Director of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. Currently he is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Theater Wing. He has also been chairman of the Advisory Committee for New York City Center's Encores! series since its inception, and serves on several boards including Goodspeed Musicals, Connecticut College, and City Center. He served as a Tony Awards nominator for two seasons, and is currently a member of the Tony Administration Committee. His career began as production or directorial assistant for the Broadway productions of Follies, The Rothschilds and The Unknown Soldier and His Wife, as well as Bernstein's Mass at the Kennedy Center, and Candide in San Francisco. As Associate to Alan Arkin, he worked on the original Broadway production of Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys, Twigs starring Carol Burnett (CBS); and Neil Cuthbert's The Soft Touch. He was Musical Director for the National Theatre of the Deaf's production of Four Saints in Three Acts, and Producer of the Musical Theatre Lab. His book Everything Was Possible: The Birth of the Musical "Follies," was published by Alfred A. Knopf (fall 2003), and in paperback by Applause Books (spring 2005).
