Black Orpheus

Black Orpheus

The most famous Brazilian love story ever told is coming to Broadway!  Black Orpheus, the iconic Cannes Palme d’Or and Academy Award winning film that introduced the world to Bossa Nova, is being adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage.  Multiple Tony-winner George C. Wolfe will direct the new musical, which will feature a score that includes many of the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luiz Bonfa, and Vinicius de Moraes themes from the motion picture.  Taking the classic Greek love story of Eurydice and Orpheus and setting it against the backdrop of a Rio de Janeiro favela during Carnival, Black Orpheus is equal parts haunting, romantic, tragic, and erotic.
